Type Locality and Naming
Western Shandong. The Malianpo Formation was named by Liu Maoxiu and described the Geological Bureau of Shandong in 1997.
Lithology and Thickness
The Malianpo Formation is composed of grayish green, yellowish grey sandy conglomerate, gravel-bearing sandstone and fine-grained sandstone, muddy sandstone. Grayish purple volcanic clastic rock occurs at the bottom, and andesite at the top. It is 307-3387 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The Malianpo Formation contacts the underlying Chengshanhou Fm conformably.
Upper contact
The Malianpo Formation contacts the overlying Bamudi Fm conformably.
Regional extent
It is mostly occurs in western Shandong.
